Dr. Nguyen-Phuoc earned his Ph.D. from Monash University, Australia in 2018 and subsequently advanced his research career as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Singapore–MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART). He joined VinUniversity in 2025, where he now leads the Vin Sustainable and Smart Urban Mobility Lab (VIN-SSUM). His research spans sustainable mobility, travel behaviour, traffic safety,transport modelling, and transport economics, resulting in 65+ publications in leading international peer-reviewed journals (WOS/Q1) and a h-index of 35. Several of his papers are among the top most cited articles in top-tier A*/A journals. Dr. Nguyen-Phuoc has been recognized in the Stanford/Elsevier's Top 2% Scientists List (2025) in the field of Logistics & Transportation.
In 2019, he was awarded the prestigious Sidra Solutions Award, recognizing him as the most outstanding postgraduate student from a tertiary institution in Australia or New Zealand. An independent Asian review of motorcycle studies in 2024 also acknowledged him as one of the two most influential scholars with a substantial local impact in the field. Dr. Nguyen-Phuoc was honored to be invited as the sole keynote speaker for the plenary session of the 13th International Conference on Transport Survey Methods (ISCTSC2025). He currently serves on the editorial boards of several leading academic journals (SSCI/Q1) such as Travel Behaviour and Society and Transportation Research Part F: Traffic Psychology and Behaviour.

Over the past decade, Dr. Nguyen-Phuoc’s Scopus-indexed publications have made substantial contributions to several UN Sustainable Development Goals, Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and especially Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, alongside Goal 1, 4, 5, 8, 12, 13 and 17.
Dr. Nguyen-Phuoc’s research focuses on evidence-based solutions for greener, healthier and more resilient cities, cleaner energy systems, and innovative transport and infrastructure planning. These contributions align closely with VinUniversity’s research priorities and support Viet Nam’s sustainable development agenda toward 2030.

Vin Sustainable and Smart Urban Mobility Lab (VIN-SSUM), led by Dr. Nguyen-Phuoc, is actively looking for highly motivated Research assistants, Master students and PhD candidates who are passionate about research in: Sustainable Mobility, Travel Behaviour, Urban Innovation, Transport Economics, Traffic Safety, and Traffic Modelling. Eligible Master and PhD students will receive full tuition fee waiver and a monthly living stipend.
Candidates with strong quantitative skills, experience in data analysis or transport modelling, and a genuine interest in sustainability and urban mobility are especially encouraged to apply. Opportunities may include participation in funded projects, co-authorship of journal papers, and involvement in international research collaborations.
